Coconut Beach House is set on a private 17 acre property beside the beautiful Coconut Beach in Cape Tribulation.  The house itself is set in tropical gardens bordered by rainforest.

 

Behind the house, you’ll find an enchanting 500 metre private rainforest walk to the beach, through mangrove and the most stunning fan palm gallery we’ve ever seen.  We can’t think of a more awe-inspiring way to start the day.

 

Sustainable power system

 

As you may know, the Daintree Coast is home to Australia’s largest sustainable energy community.  We don’t have any grid power, and we have to generate our own power for each individual property, by means of solar panels, hydro or wind turbines or petrol/diesel generators. 

 

At Coconut Beach House, we have a large remote area power system with solar panels on the roof, a bank of batteries to store the power plus a backup petrol generator.  But we still need to be a bit careful about what appliances we use as our system can only cope with a certain load and we ask you to be mindful of that.

 

So what does that mean for your stay?  From inside the house, everything looks like a normal house, with 240V power sockets throughout, and you can still use hair straighteners and the small hair dryer supplied.  But you will notice a few things missing, because they are too powerful for our system:  No toaster, no microwave, no air-conditioning, no electrical heating appliances like toasted sandwich makers, rice cookers, bread makers etc, no electric kettle and no electric heaters.

If you think you can’t live without these things or you want to bring lots of extra camping fridges etc, then you may find a house that would suit you in Daintree Village on the south side of the river where grid power is available.

Mobile phones

Since 2021 Cape Tribulation has mobile phone coverage, although you will pass through black spots on your journey from the ferry.
